NEW HARTFORD – Jessie Fortson, the 11 year-old girl who spent more than two weeks at University Hospital in Syracuse after a near-drowning, has been discharged and returned home to her family, the hospital said.

The near-drowning occurred June 20 at a party at the pool of the Woodberry Hills Swim Club in New Hartford around 5:40 p.m.

The Myles Elementary School sixth-grader got into the water over her head and was rescued by lifeguard staff, Sgt. Paul Colburn of the New Hartford Police Department said.

Sgt. Colburn said the party did have supervision.

Forston had been transported to St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Utica before she was airlifted to University Hospital in Syracuse where she remained for more than two weeks.
