(WKTV) - A man known to many in the area as "Harry Potter" has been charged with the rape of a thirteen year old girl. According to Ilion Police, Jeremy M. Snyder, 28 of Herkimer, AKA "Harry Potter," is charged with one count of first-degree rape. Police said the nickname came from his likeness to the fictional character in J.K. Rowling novels. The charges allege that Snyder forcibly had sex with a female who was 13 at the time of the alleged rape. Snyder is a registered Level Two sex offender in New York State, stemming from a 2001 conviction of first-degree sexual abuse. Snyder was arraigned in the Town of German Flatts Court and sent to the Herkimer County Correctional Facility in lieu of $25,000 bail and $50,000 bail bond. The arrest follows an investigation begun by the Herkimer County Child Advocacy Center in Herkimer along with the Herkimer County Department of Social Services and the Ilion Police Department. |
