See a lot of Red? It's National Wear Red Day!

By EMMA WRIGHT

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - One day a year, red takes over as the most fashionable color - all in the name of a good cause.

"Wear Red Day" is part of the American Heart Association's "Go Red" campaign, encouraging everyone to support the fight against heart disease - the number one killer of women in the United States.

The Heart Association hopes that by donning their favorite crimson shirts, ties, and high heels, people will keep heart disease in the front of their minds.

Heart disease kills more women every year than breast cancer, with nearly 1 in 3 women dying from it this year. If that weren't bad enough, 90% of women have one or more risk factors for developing cardiovascular disease in the future.

"Wear Red Day" was going strong in the Mohawk Valley from the very start of Friday. Hart's Hill Inn was a sea of red at the "Go Red for Women CEO Breakfast," an event that kick's off this year's "12 week Healthier Lifestyle Challenge." Breakfast organizers said it is important to grow the Go Red mission and raise awareness about heart disease and stroke in the community.

Millions of people are participating in Go Red day around the country, including employees at 200 local companies.

Also, employees at Bassett Healthcare in Cooperstown got in the spirit of raising awareness. They made a music video put to the song "Put a Little Love in Your Heart" by Mary Mary. For the full-length video, you can visit Bassett's website at www.bassett.org
