Participants take off for the Carbone 5K Training Run

Laurie Benedict

UTICA – With a bang, the 1600 participants in this year’s Carbone 5K Training Run took off from the start line on Burrstone Road and York Ave this morning.

This year is actually a record number of runners for the 5k, with 1100 having ran last year.

People of all ages took part, including New York State’s own Governor Eliot Spitzer.

The run, introduced in 2000, is aimed at introducing runners to the course and preparing them for the Boilermaker 15K.
