EAGLE BAY, N.Y. (WKTV) - A New Jersey man is dead following a snowmobile accident in the Adirondacks.

Town of Webb Police say the accident happened around 2:10 Sunday afternoon on Big Moose Road. Investigators say Patrick Naughton, 64, of Old Tappan, New Jersey failed to negotiate a left-hand curve. The snowmobile went off the road and struck a birch tree.

Naughton and his passenger, Shannon Garrity, 7, were both thrown from the sled. Naughton was rushed to St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Utica but was pronounced dead while en-route. Garrity was also taken to St. Elizabeth Medical Center with a knee injury.

The cause of death is not yet known, pending an autopsy. Investigators believe the accident was due to driver inexperience and unsafe speeds.
