Colonial Square to be "intergenerational" housing development

Dave Dellecese

UTICA – Colonial Square is going to be an “intergenerational” housing development, with single family homes, town houses, and senior apartments.

There are only poured foundations and wooden frames at the moment, but that hasn’t stopped people from calling to find out more.

The development is going up in the old Weaver Estates area off Trenton Road in North Utica.

And while Wednesday was the ceremonial groundbreaking, it was pretty evident that the shovels hit the ground a long time ago on this project.

Garages are up for the senior apartments and the frame is up for the community building that anyone living there will be able to use. There are crews there working every day.

The question remains: will something like this succeed in Utica?

The developer said that judging from the level of interest, “absolutely.”

More than just inquiries, four senior apartments in what’ll be known as Schuyler Commons, are already leased. They’ll be ready as early as October, and the single family homes and town houses are soon to follow.

Any one with questions can direct them to the North Utica Shopping Plaza, where the United Group has their offices.
