VANCOUVER (WKTV) - Remsen's Erin Hamlin competed in her first two rounds of Olympic women's single luge Monday night. At the halfway point in the competition, Hamlin is in 15th place, almost one second behind the leader.  Due to her placing Monday, she will start 15th at the start of the third run on Tuesday afternoon.

Hamlin's first run went at 5:00 p.m. local time. She posted the eighth best run, with a time of 41.835.

Her second run was at 6:50 p.m.EDT, the second to slide in the round. She had a time of 42.219.  Hamlin's combined time for the two runs, 1:24.054, puts her in 15th place with her final two runs coming Tuesday. Going into the last two rounds, Hamlin is 0.813 behind the event's leader, Tatjana Huefner of Germany.

Hamlin's next two runs take place Tuesday starting at 4:00 and 5:30 p.m.EDT, respectively. The lugers will slide in the order of their rankings, so Hamlin will go 15th.

Hamlin grew up in Remsen and is the reigning World Luge Champion. She claimed that title nearly a year ago on her home track of Lake Placid. Erin has spent the last part of the year competing the World Cup Series, in which she garnered two bronze medals from.

Sports Illustrated featured Hamlin in their Olympic preview issue and predicted her to go home with another bronze medal, which would be the first medal for any U.S. woman luger.

As for the other U.S. woman lugers, Julia Cluckey is right behind Hamlin in 16th place and Megan Sweeney is in 27th place of 29 sliders. She just made the cut as the bottom two sliders will not be able to complete Tuesday.

As for the broadcast coverage, NBC will air the women's singles luge at 12:35 a.m. after it takes place.
