Local Irish dancers raise money to compete in Scotland

CLINTON, N.Y. (WKTV) - An Irish Hooley is planned for this weekend as two local girls prepare for an international dance competition.

Meg Hughes and Tess Teodoro have been dancing for years, but this will be the girls' first time overseas. The two are from Clinton and compete on a team with seven other girls.

Just to give you an idea of how big the competition is, only the top 12% of dancers from around the globe were asked to compete.

"At first, we were just doing it for fun," Teodoro said. "But we got more and more into it and eventually we were, like, going to regionals. And it's not just competing. It's fun to do. This is my hobby."

The Irish Hooley is taking place on Saturday at the Clinton VFW.

Tickets are $15 at the door.

The girls leave for Scotland on March 28.
