Camden snowmobiler crashes drunk, BAC three times legal limit
ANNSVILLE, N.Y. (WKTV) - A Camden man crashed his snowmobile Sunday and then later charged with snowmobiling while intoxicated, according to the Oneida County Sheriffs Department.
Authorities say that 34-year-old Mark Riesterer of Camden was driving west on Trail #4 near Gubbins Road and failed to negotiate a left-hand turn. Riesterer was partially ejected from the vehicle but was able to pull his snowmobile from the wooded area and left the scene. Two Sheriffs Deputies were conducting a snowmobile safety checkpoint when a passer-by reported the accident. Riesterer as found about a mile east of where the accident occurred as he tried to ride the broken snowmobile to a nearby camp that he rented for the weekend. Further investigation revealed that Riesterer had been drunk while operating the snowmobile and was arrested after he failed sobriety tests. Riesterer's blood alcohol content was later determined to be 0.24%, which is three times the legal limit. Riesterer was charged with snowmobiling while intoxicated and snowmobiling with a BAC greater than 0.08%, both misdemeanors. He was additionally charged with operating at an imprudent speed, leaving the scene of a property damage snowmobile accident, failing to report a property damage snowmobile accident and for failing to provide proof of liability insurance. Riesterer was released and is scheduled to appear in Annsville Town Court at a later date. |
