The Miracle on Ice: 30 Years Later

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. (WKTV) - 30 years ago on this day, the men's U.S. Olympic ice hockey team did the unthinkable; they defeated the Soviet Union in an historic game at Lake Placid, and went on to win a gold medal.

On the anniversary of the "Miracle on Ice" game, NEWSChannel 2's Don Shipman takes a look back the preparation work that went on to make the 1980 Winter Olympic games in Lake Placid possible. He spoke to the chair of the Division of Protocol, Jim Rogers, about the grassroots effort to prepare the small village of Lake Placid to host the world.
