Second round of Nor'Easter hits Mohawk Valley; breaks records

(WKTV) - The Mohawk Valley dug itself out of the second round of a nor'easter Friday morning, breaking some records as they did so.

Utica residents dealt with 16.5 inches of snow Friday, just from overnight's storm alone. This breaks the all-time snow record for that day of 5" in 2006.

After a reasonably slow winter season, this newest dose of snow has brought the season snowfall total to normal for the first time all winter.

Due to the amount of heavy snowfall in Utica Thursday night, the garbage and recycling trucks were limited in areas that could be collected. Based upon the snow emergency, Solid Waste Authority officials said the route will be collected Friday, February 26 after 11 p.m. Waste Authority officials ask residents to leave their garbage and recyclables out at the edge of the driveway or a cleaned level spot between the sidewalk and the curb for collection Friday. They stress that this affects Thursday night's route only.

Over in Richfield Springs, 27 inches of snow greeted those waking up Friday morning. In Herkimer, a snow emergency activated Thursday night remained in effect until Mayor Ainsworth said otherwise.

Even the judicial system took a punch from the snow. Herkimer County Court got a late start Friday morning, as some attorneys found themselves delayed by the winter weather.

While the snow will continue throughout the weekend, with several inches accumulating, the worst of this storm is over.

According to National Grid, there were numerous power outages reported throughout the region. For a full list of those power outages, you can visit National Grid's website.
