New York Mills Mayor officially announces run for Oneida County Sheriff

NEW YORK MILLS, N.Y. (WKTV) - The mayor of New York Mills has officially announced that he is in the race for Oneida County Sheriff.

Mayor Robert Maciol made the announcement Friday morning at the Club Monarch in Yorkville.

Aside from being Mayor of New York Mills, Maciol is also a full-time police officer in the Village of Whitesboro.

The democrat said he's been in law enforcement for 21 years, and a volunteer firefighter for 23 years. With November approaching in just nine months, Maciol said he's ready for a long tough election year.

"The sheriff's budget exceeds $30 million...it's a very large, expensive budget," Maciol said. "And having experience of working on putting budgets together, dealing with expenditures, dealing with revenues...in this day and age we need to look at more creative ways to do our job and make sure we cut the waste that's out there in the operation."

Several other individuals aside from Maciol are seeking the Sheriff's position.

On the Republican side, Rome Police Commissioner James Masucci has sent notice to the Oneida County GOP.

Also seeking that endorsement is Oneida County Undersheriff Peter Paravati, Oneida County Sheriff's Captain Richard Antanavige, and Assemblyman David Townsend.
