Utica man tried to pass counterfeit bills in New Hartford

NEW HARTFORD – They say timing is everything.

When New Hartford Police responded to that call for funny money at Piggy Pats, the person who allegedly possessed and passed it was still there.

He was Jeremiah Hurd, 36, of New Hartford. Police obtained a search warrant for Hurd’s car and said they found a total of 18 counterfeit $20 and $50 bills.

They said the unusual, matching serial numbers indicate to them that Hurd might have made the bills as well.

Here’s a list of the serial numbers of counterfeit $20 and $50 bills police said are linked to Hurd.

Police say there are probably more of the counterfeit bills out there.

Currently, Hurd is charged with only two counts of criminal possession of a forged instrument in the first-degree.

He was arraigned before a New Hartford Town Justice who committed Hurd to Jail until his next court appearance.
