A new green training facility may take shape in Cornhill in the future

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - The Johnson Park community has an ambitious plan to put a new green training facility at Johnson Park.

The plans were unveiled in a meeting Wednesday night with Hage and Hage and the Reverend Maria Scates from JCTOD.

Designed by Hage and Hage, the new  facility would provide training in using renewable energy sources such as geo-thermal, solar and bio-diesel conversion.  It would also have a greenhouse and a composting facility.

According to Amy Hilts of Hage & Hage, the project would help people to lower energy costs, create green jobs and improve the environment.

"The benefit of creating a sustainable environment for your children," Hilts said.  "The children of Johnson Park.  Which is a big focus for them.  They've got the youth programs, they've got this program to create a daycare facility that is healthy for the children in the neighborhood."

The project started about a year ago, when Reverend Scates pitched the idea of a green daycare center at Johnson Park to Hilts.  They later decided to expand the plan and aim for a green community.
