Heart Run & Walk 2010 sees record turnout

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - A record number of participants came out Saturday to make America's Greatest Heart Run & Walk truly that.

$1,125,032 were raised to help combat heart disease through the fundraising efforts of those thousands.

8,740 runners and walkers registered, making this the largest turnout in Heart Run history.

Sunny skies and decent temperatures made multiple events enjoyable by participants and spectators alike.

Mary Kate Hartman of the American Heart Association said this event takes the work of so many different people. She said this was not possible, "without every single person from volunteers to walkers to the people who funded those walkers. This is truly a community effort."

Part of the final total is thanks to the NEWSChannel 2 Bassett Health Care Network Telethon.
