Common Council Finance Committee holds another weekend session

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - A week after Mayor David Roefaro unveiled his 2010-2011 budget proposal, Utica's Finance Committee held another Saturday morning meeting.

State Senator Joe Griffo and Assemblywoman RoAnn Destito were in attendance. The Finance Committee wanted to get their opinion on the budget. Griffo and Destito say they do not agree with the mayor's plan to increase sales tax to raise revenue.

The finance committee is still looking for ways to balance the city's $4 million deficit, but it is clear that taxes will have to be raised and city jobs will be cut.

Mayor Roefaro says the reason for the $4 million deficit is the state's financial problems. A budget is supposed to be approved by the Common Council and in place by March 20.
