AIDS Hike for Life fundraising gets underway with kickoff breakfast

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Fundraising for this year's AIDS Hike for Life is now underway.

A kickoff breakfast was held at Café Domenico in Utica Tuesday morning, offering teams the opportunity to register and pick up materials promoting the event.

In years past, participants have raised $64,000 for AIDS Community Resources, who use the money for research and education. Organizers said the best part of the walk is that all the contributions remain local.

"100 percent of the money stays right here in the Mohawk Valley," said Carrie Large of AIDS Community Resources. "Second, we're getting state budget cuts left and right. So, this money will come back to help our prevention education for our teens. We're in middle schools, high schools, after school programs - teaching the kids to make healthy decisions."

The AIDS Hike for Life walk takes place April 25 at Hamilton College.
