UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - The Utica Common Council Finance Committee met yet again Monday night at City Hall to discuss the budget.
It may now just be a matter of which city jobs will be cut, in order to keep a tax increase to a minimum.
The meeting was open to the public and the media, until the committee started discussing actual positions that may have to be eliminated. They then convened to a closed door executive session.
Utica Mayor David Roefaro says he is working with the council and says cuts will be made, it's just a matter of which ones will hurt the least.
"Now if we can find some reductions there where it won't hurt city services then we'll do that," Roefaro said. "We may have to hurt city services as we go along, but I have another ten days, and myself as well as the Common Council, we're working very hard on trying to find cuts."
Roefaro also wouldn't rule out cutting from public safety.
The Common Council must have a budget in place by March 22nd. If they don't, the Mayor's proposed budget will become the actual city budget for 2010 - 2011.
