Tech Showcase gives young talent a chance to show off engineering skills

MARCY, N.Y. (WKTV) - We live in a world ruled by technology, and some exciting advancements were on display at the Tech Showcase Thursday afternoon.

Students from across Central New York showcased their engineering prowess at the SUNYIT gym. Along with displays, the students also went head-to-head in techno-competitions, including robotics, junkyard wars, CO2 car races and more.

There was also a sumo-bot competition where robots made from Legos try to push each other off a table. Sixth-Grader Ryan Payne, a member of the New Hartford RoboSpartans, said these are some high-tech legos.

"We plugged the robot into the computer or we use a bluetooth," Payne said. "Then we program the robot from the computer, and then it should do what we tell it to do on the computer."

Payne designed the sumo-bot, and said he wants to be an engineer when he grows up.
