Firefighter pulled from parade to battle Utica blaze

By WKTV News

Utica, N.Y. (WKTV) - Just as Saturday morning's St. Patrick's Day parade was wrapping up, some of the Utica firefighters in the parade were put to work.

Around 11:00a.m. a fire started on the porch of a large home that houses four apartments on Sherman Place just off of Genesee Street near Faxton/St. Lukes Medical Center.

Fire officials say they are not sure how the blaze started, but luckily they were able to put it out quickly. Before being put out the fire had started to spread to the inside of one of the upstairs apartments.

Investigators are interviewing residents of the building, as well as other neighbors,0 to see if anyone may have seen anyone on the porch.

Everyone got out of the building in time.

No word on any injuries as of yet.  The cause is still under investigation.
