Ripken and Gwynn Address Media

By Nate Crossett

Prior to Sunday's Hall of Fame induction, Tony Gwynn and Cal Ripken Jr. addressed the media on Saturday.

Ripken and Gwynn faced pressure to perform through four decades and in two World Series.  On Saturday, they felt none of it, but they did feel the nerves that come when you're asked to give what could be one of the most important speeches of your life.

"I've put it down on paper," says Cal Ripken Jr.  "I've practiced it.  The only worry and concern I have is that some parts that hit the closest is pretty emotional.  I'm hoping in the live moments, I'll be OK."

"I don't think it's going to be one of the most important speeches of my life," says Tony Gwynn, "because all I'll be doing is talking about something that has already happened and thanking those who helped me get to that point."

The emotion will come to a head on Sunday when both stare into a crowd of tens of thousands of fans.
