WHITESBORO, N.Y. (WKTV) - While the big-time national and state elections aren't until November, residents in some local municipalities exercised their right to vote Tuesday night.
There was a changing of the guard in Whitesboro. Incumbent Mayor Richard Pugh lost his battle for re-election. Veteran trustee Brenda Gilberti received 273 votes to Pugh's 121.
Pugh wasn't the only incumbent defeated Tuesday night. Sitting Board of Trustees member Richard Shaffer did not finish in the top two spots. Shaffer received 147 votes. That means David Glenn's 246 votes and Robert Friedlander's 234 votes were enough to give them spots on the board.
In Boonville, it was a fairly close four-way race for the two trustee positions. Lisa Bellinger and Michael Chambers were the top-two vote getters, bringing in 95 and 85 votes respectively. Kelly Ulrich and Larry Myers fell short with 66 and 44 votes respectively.
And in Dolgeville, 221 people voted for Larry Brandow and 199 voted for Donna Loucks, winning them the two trustee positions there. Also running was Leann Nagle-Weaver, who fell short with only 157 votes.
Other Contested elections:
In New York Mills, Incumbents Ken Jarosz and John Bialek kept their seats with 459 and 442 votes, respectively. John Edwards brought in 320 votes Tuesday night.
The Village of Oriskany voted in two trustees - Shaun Kaleta with 181 votes and Christopher Burtch with 158 votes. Andrew Trinkaus brought in 128 votes.
Joe Clements and Janice Krueger won the Sylvan Beach Village Trustee seats with 174 and 131 votes, respectively. Bill Shaughnessy brought in 109 votes.
