17 years in state prison for man accused of assaulting officer
UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - A man who pleaded guilty to assaulting a Utica Police officer in July is heading to prison for a long time.
Paris Smith was sentenced to 17 years in state prison Wednesday morning. He pleaded guilty to two counts of assault and one count of criminal possession of a weapon for having a loaded 38-caliber handgun when he attacked an officer. The incident happened on the 700 block of Noyes Street in West Utica during the afternoon of July 14, 2009. Police claim one of the officers had his head slammed against the pavement several times, while onlookers cheered the suspects. |
