ROME, N.Y. (WKTV) - Senator Joseph Griffo announced Friday night he will seek a third term to represent the 47th district. But now, a big name challenger could be waiting in the wings, Utica Common Council President William C. Morehouse.

While Morehouse will not confirm a run at the seat. He did say he would be "A good candidate for the job."

Morehouse is concerned with the direction of politics in Albany, and he says that the community needs good candidates to run against incumbents such as Senator Griffo and Assemblywoman RoAnn Destito.

Morehouse says his focus has been working hard on the Utica City budget but now that the budget has passed, he says that a run is not out of the question.

Meanwhile Senator Griffo says he's got the experience and commitment that 47th district needs, especially during this economic downturn, and he's not worried about the competition.

"I never look at who may run for the position. I have to focus on what I have done what I can bring to the future, relative to the capacity that I have and how I contribute, that's the way I run a campaign," said Griffo.
