NYS bridges go through inspections in light of Minneapolis Collapse

In the wake of the Minneapolis Bridge Collapse, engineers throughout the state inspecting bridges today.

New York has roughly 19,000 bridges inspected on a bi-annual basis by both state and private engineers to keep tragedies like what happened Wednesday from happening in your back yard.

Today inspectors were in Rome checking out all aspects of this bridge.

State inspectors say there are several levels of inspections that go on to ensure safe passage.

“The inspection program ensures take immediate action to correct it,” said Alice Romanych with the Department of Transportation.

Erosion scours bearings and bolts, there are a myriad of checks made for bridges inspectors through the states rating system.

While the D.O.T. wouldn't comment on the collapse in Minnesota they are confident that their aggressive strategies for bridge inspections will keep each of our states bridges in good standing.
