Man was facing drug charges when he barricaded himself in Oneida Castle apartment
ONEIDA CASTLE, N.Y. (WKTV) - A man who barricaded himself inside his Oneida Castle Home and allegedly attempted to set it on fire was being arrested for drug charges just before he locked himself inside, Oneida Police said.
Oneida City Police said they went to the Seneca Avenue apartment of Scott D. Dennis, 34, on Friday, March 19 around 1:30 pm to interview him and charge him on a drug charge. Police said that's when Dennis is alleged to have refused to open his door, and began slamming things in the apartment against the door, breaking glass, and started burning something inside the apartment. Additional police units responded from Oneida City Police, Oneida County Sheriff's Department and the New York State Police along with the Oneida Castle Fire Department. Police said Dennis emerged shortly after from his apartment and was taken into custody. As a precaution, the road was shut down for a short time. The investigation into activity at the apartment was turned over to the Oneida County Sheriff's Department. Dennis was arraigned before an Oneida City Court and sent to Madison County Jail in lieu of bail set at $5,000 cash or $10,000 bond to appear on Friday, March 26, 2010 in Oneida City Court. Police said Dennis is alleged to have sold methamphetamine to another person in the city of Oneida. He is now facing charges of criminal sale of a controlled substance. |
