Man sentenced for January hammer attack

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - On Thursday, Charles Stevens learned that he will spend the next 15 years in prison for breaking into a Bridgewater woman's garage, hitting her over the head with a hammer, and stealing more than $7,000 from her.

Susan Dote recovered from her injuries from the January 5, 2010 incident, and the vast majority of the money was recovered.

Stevens pleaded guilty to burglary back on February 19.

Investigators said Stevens waited outside the home of the 62 year-old Dote before attacking her January 5. They said Stevens worked for Dote and her husband at Scooby Dog Food in Utica for the past year and a half.
