State revokes liquor license of Bogie II nightclub for two years
UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - The Bogie II, the embattled Utica nightclub with a history of violent occurrences, has had their liquor license revoked for two years.
The Bogie II Nightclub went before the full board of the State Liquor Authority on Wednesday, after the City of Utica had closed down the club for a year following hearings at city hall. Former Police Chief Dan LaBella pointed out at a January hearing that police have been called to the Bogie 386 times in three years...even though the bar is only open eight hours a week. Officers at that hearing testified about what they've encountered at the bar, including patrons, injured by cut glass, security guards carrying concealed weapons who weren't licensed to do so and convicted felons watching the door. Officers also said they'd been called to the Bogie for shots fired in the parking lot. "Today the Members of the SLA levied a revocation order and bond claim against Bogie II Night Club," Michael R. Smith of the New York State Liquor Authority said in a statement on Wednesday. "Reckless licensees who jeopardize the public's health, safety and welfare will not be tolerated." Revocation means the license to sell alcoholic beverages has been taken away and the revoked licensee - Anthony Festa - cannot hold a license or have an interest in any premises where alcoholic beverages are sold for two years. The SLA may also deny a new license at that same location for two years. Owner Anthony Festa has said that he felt he was unfairly targeted by the City of Utica. |
