LAS VEGAS (WKTV) - Gloriana, a country band with local roots, was edged out for the Top New Artist award which was given out on the 45th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards Sunday night.
Earlier, the ACM named the group Top New Vocal Group of the year. Sunday, soloist Luke Bryan beat them for Top New Artist.
In November of 2009, Gloriana won the Breakthrough Artist of the Year Award at the American Music Awards, beating out favorite Lady Gaga.
Gloriana was officially founded in 2007 and features two brothers originally from New Hartford, Tom and Mike Gossin, in addition to two other members, Rachel Reinert and Cheyenne Kimball.
2009 was quite the impressive year for Gloriana which included being the number one album on iTunes this past summer. The single "Wild At Heart" is the best selling single by a new country artist in 2009 with sales reaching upwards of 350,000 copies to date. They also performed at the Country Music Television Awards.
The Gossin brothers and their band have toured with Taylor Swift. They credit Swift for being a fan of their group and inviting them to tour with her as an opening act.
Gloriana's self-titled debut album was only released in late-summer and they have already made a lot of noise in the country and popular music industries.
Last summer, NEWSChannel 2 spoke with their mom, Maryann Witte, who said she could not be more proud of her boys.
"They were very determined," Witte said. "They worked hard at it and went above what was expected of them to get where they are today. I saw that over the years when they were growing up. They are absolutely dedicated to music and that's it."
