Senator Gillibrand tours SUNYIT, talks possibilities of Nanocenter

MARCY, N.Y. (WKTV) - Some big names from Washington, D.C. are throwing their support behind a new Nano-technology center at SUNYIT.

Senator Kirsten Gillibrand and Congressman Michael Arcuri paid a visit to the Mohawk Valley Friday afternoon. The lawmakers are working to secure federal funds for cyber-security research and technology.

The money will go to places like SUNYIT and their partners; universities that are on the cutting edge of cyber research.

The Senator and Congressman took a tour of the SUNYIT campus Friday, checking out the planned expansion.

"More research and development will come here...and more jobs," said Senator Gillibrand.

"It's a vision," Congressman Arcuri said. "We can sit there and say it can happen...and we can make it happen."

An agreement was made on Thursday to make the land for the Nanotech center at SUNYIT shovel ready.
