New Hartford Police Chief could be named by next week

By WKTV News

NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. (WKTV) - New Hartford Town Supervisor Patrick Tyksinski originally planned to appoint a police chief by mid June but now he says the new chief could be named at next week's regular board meeting.

The town board is interviewing three of the four final candidates in executive session at Thursday night's meeting. Then at next Thursday's meeting, the chief could be named.

Tyksinski couldn't release candidates' names, but says they're not just local "they're all currently working in law enforcement; that's one of the things the board wanted so they put that in as a qualification; we do have some that are local and we do have some that are from outside the area."

The new chief will be provisional, until he or she passes the civil service test for the job in March. In the meantime, Lieutenant Timothy O'Neill has been filling in as chief.
