State names director to oversee high-speed rail program

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - State Department of Transportation Acting Commissioner Stanley Gee has named the agency's director of major projects, Marie Corrado, to oversee the high speed rail program.

Last week, Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand criticized the DOT for not having named anyone to oversee the high-speed rail project.

Gillibrand announced in January that New York state was getting $151 million from the U.S. Department of Transportation to build new high-speed rail lines across New York. The relatively low amount disappointed many.

The state finished eighth in the race to share $8 billion in federal stimulus funds for high-speed rail projects. California got $2.3 billion and Florida got $1.25 billion.
