ROME - U.S. Representative Michael A. Arcuri (D-Utica) announced that the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has awarded $1.7 million to Oneida Country for continued redevelopment efforts at the Griffiss Airfield in Rome.

The announcement represents the fourth round of Military Airport Program (MAP) funding for Griffiss - bringing the total federal investment to $19.4 million over the last four years.

"The Griffiss Park is a site of limitless economic development potential," said Arcuri, a member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee which is responsible for authorizing funds for MAP. "I am glad to announce this grant that will allow Oneida County to continue making the necessary structural improvements at Griffiss Airfield. These funds will help make sure the airport can update snow removal facilities and continue to provide quality service. I am glad to see federal funds coming back to the area to improve necessary transportation infrastructure and help grow our local economy."

"This funding helps our efforts to make the airfield at Griffiss an outstanding air facility so that it can serve as both a vital transportation link and an economic development hub for our region," said Oneida County Executive Anthony J. Picente, Jr. "This investment in the airfield will help make the Oneida County Airport stronger for years to come. We appreciate Congressman Arcuri's efforts on our behalf and his hard work to follow through in Washington to build on the partnership that is making the new Oneida County Airport a first-class facility."

The FAA awarded Griffiss Airfield funding for rehabilitation and improvements to the snow removal equipment building. The funding will be used to improve the roof, siding, and insulation at the aging building. Funds will also go to apron rehabilitation needed for aircraft to access the fuel facilities and gain access to the building.
