Harpoon beer - a taste of Vermont being canned in Utica

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - A little taste of Vermont is getting contained in Utica.

The Harpoon Brewery is looking to make backpacks a little easier to carry on hiking trips this summer, introducing two of their flagship brews in can form. The Harpoon Brewery's India Pale Ale and seasonal summer brew is brewed at Harpoon's Windsor, Vermont brewery, but is being canned at the F.X. Matt Brewery in Utica.

Officials with Harpoon Brewery hope the new cans will enable New England craft beer lovers to enjoy their beers during the summer and at locations where glass bottles might not otherwise be allowed, or be inconvenient.

Originally, Harpoon's India Pale Ale was released as a seasonal beer in the Summer of 1993 and became a year-round offering shortly after thanks to an overwhelming popularity. Harpoon Summer Beer was introduced in 1999.

Harpoon Brewery officials said the new summer beer cans are 100% recyclable, but that only a limited number of 12 pack cases will be produced for the 2010.
