Alcohol sales to start Thursday at Turning Stone

VERONA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Starting Thursday, May 27, alcohol will be sold at the Turning Stone Resort and Casino.

CD Food & Beverage was issued their liquor license Wednesday, May 25, meaning they will be able to sell alcohol everywhere and anywhere at the resort.

The endeavor started in 2007 when the Turning Stone Resort was denied a liquor license on their own. After the refusal, Turning Stone would have to continue to offer alcohol through vendors who would get a liquor permit on a day-by-day basis. The Beeches in Rome was one of those vendors.

The Beeches offered alcohol at the resorts restaurants for guests who paid $25 for a Diamond Card membership. The Beeches permits were also granted on a daily basis.

Shortly after the death of Chris Destito, who started the original partnership with Turning Stone, The Beeches created "CD Food and Beverage," named after the late Destito.

In April of this year, CD Food & Beverage applied for a license to expand alcohol sales at the resort, without having to constantly re-apply. Earlier this month, the New York State Liquor Authority voted 3-0 to approve their application.

Dozens of citizens and bar owners drove to Albany to fight the application.

"This means more jobs, more visitors to Central New York, and an added economic benefit for local non-Nation businesses as visitors, corporate meetings and trade shows to Turning Stone increase," said Vince Farrar, Director of Food and Beverage for the Turning Stone Resort.

It is projected that $4 million in revenue will be created from the alcohol sales, said Nation officials. CD Food and Beverage will be paying sales tax to the state, Oneida County and another 8% to the Oneida Indian Nation for a nation tax.
