AT&T shooting victim in critical condition; store remains closed

NEW YORK MILLS, N.Y. (WKTV) - The AT&T store on Commercial Drive was still closed Friday after the shooting that sent one employee to the hospital, and left the shooter dead.

The wife of 37-year-old Seth Turk says her husband is doing better after Thursday's surgery, even though he remained in critical condition Friday afternoon at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Utica.

Turk was the only person shot inside the AT&T store Thursday around 1 p.m. Turk was shot in the abdomen, and his wife says the surgery had to repair the internal damage due to that .357 magnum bullet from the gun of Abraham Dickan, 79.

She, like many others are thanking off-duty Rome Police Officer Donald Moore. Authorities said Dickan went into the store around 1 p.m. with a list of six AT&T workers he was going to kill.

Officer Moore was a customer in the store, who thankfully was in the right place at the right time, with his own personal gun on him.

"It's his own personal choice," said Moore's boss, Rome Police Chief Kevin Beach at a press conference following the shooting. "We do encourage our officers to carry off-duty. You never know what's going to happen."

A New York State Police Trooper was still has the scene Friday morning, keeping the site secure. There is no word yet on when it will reopen.
