PGA Golf Tournament equals profit for local businesses

Laurie Benedict

VERNON - Come Monday, the Atunyote Golf Course will be the place to be to catch the latest action in the world of golf.

Professional golfers from around the world will take center stage as thousands of spectators look on, and all those spectators mean big dollar signs for local businesses.

This is going to be the largest purse for Turning Stone, a total of six million dollars! It's also the largest purse in the entire PGA tour's fall series.

Local businesses are cashing in on this major event. We're told local hotels such as the Hotel Utica and the hotel at Vernon Downs are booked with PGA guests.

Turning Stone has used everything from local florists to area lumberyards to create its spectacular venues and make improvements on the golf course.

Oneida Nation spokesperson, Mark Emery says its events like this that bring a community together, “This is just another example of bringing business to the area bringing guests from outside the area who will be shopping here going to restaurants staying in hotels so a lot of business activity should help everybody.”

Right now Emery says about 50,000 tickets have been sold, but there are still more available. To get your tickets, you can call 315-361-7469 or go through Ticketmaster.
