Afternoon shooting near barber shop is 21st 'shots fired call' in Utica this month

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Police say someone was shot in the City of Utica on Thursday afternoon, but they don't know the extent of the injuries because both the victim and suspect fled the scene.

According to Utica Police, officers responded to the corner of Steuben Street and James Street around 1 p.m. on Thursday for a call of shots fired. Authorities said officers found that someone fired a shot into the James Street Barber Shop after having an argument with a patron.

Both the suspect and victim fled prior to police arrival on the scene.

Police say this incident marks the 21st time since August 1st that the UPD has responded for shots fired throughout the city.
