American Legion baseball players meet with veterans

By WKTV News

(WKTV) - American Legion baseball players met the people they play for on Tuesday, when they met with veterans at Sitrin.

Some of the vets the players met were from the most current conflicts, while others were from previous wars. The newly elected department commander says American Legions and the league support veteran rehabilitation, while the vets give the teens a program to play in.

"It's good for the veterans to see the players they support and promotes a good healthy program -- citizenship, sportsmanship, teamwork -- everything that builds character for these young Americans," said Frank Peters, department commander.

Games begin Wednesday at Murnane Field and run through the weekend. The championship game is noon Sunday.

The city was just awarded the tournament for the next six years.
