American Red Cross Clara Barton Campaign Kicks Off

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - The American Red Cross of the Mohawk Valley kicked off their Clara Barton Campaign Wednesday. The annual fundraiser is a major gift campaign with community leaders donating $1,000 or more to the Red Cross.

This year's Clara Barton Society Campaign Captains were also announced.

The four captains will help recruit others to support the local Red Cross in Disaster Preparedness and Response, Service to Armed Forces, Health and Safety Training or Blood Services.

"Because we can't do it alone, we cover three different counties, Oneonta, Herkimer, Otsego, and because of that we have members of the community, leaders of the community that come out and help us with this campaign," said Jennifer Balog, Community Chapter Executive for the American Red Cross of the Mohawk Valley.

The group seeks to recruit fifty new Clara Barton Society campaign members and has already received gifts of $1,000 or more from 25 individuals across the Mohawk Valley. Four 2013 members are contributing $84 per month through automatic credit or debit card payments.

The Carbone Auto Group started things off by donating a $5,000 check for the Red Cross and encouraged others to match that gift.

The campaign runs until June 30th.

Clara Barton (1821-1912) founded the American Red Cross on May 21, 1881. Across the 16-county Central New York Region, there are approximately 175 Clara Barton Society members.
