American Red Cross flags fly to raise awareness of organization

By WKTV News

(WKTV) - In the next few days, you may notice Red Cross flags flying at some local government offices.

It's all part of American Red Cross Month.

A Red Cross flag was raised Monday in the City of Rome, with Mayor Joe Fusco and Red Cross employees in attendance. March was first proclaimed American Red Cross Month 71 years ago by President Franklin D. Roosevelt. The local Red Cross is proud to help continue the tradition and help raise awareness.

"Many times you hear the Red Cross responds to this and that, and it just becomes status quo," said Julie Darling, community executive with the American Red Cross. "But bring it to the forefront so we all know the great work being done around our communities and around the world."

Flags will fly at offices in Utica, Rome, Herkimer, Cooperstown and Sidney.
