UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Kids by the busload filled up Proctor Park on Thursday for the 2012 Boilermaker Youth Olympics.

Events this year included everything from a soccer shoot-out to a home-run derby, and even checkers and jump rope.

Participation this year topped last year's with close to 500 children getting involved.

It's a win-win event that gets children and parents alike to get outside and to get active.

"We want these kids to stay involved," said Sean Brown, Director of the City of Utica's Youth Bureau. "We want these kids to get involved with our activities. This is also an outlet for them to fight childhood obesity as well."
