Arcuri: Remington Arms to get $21 million military contract

ILION, N.Y. (WKTV) - Remington Arms in Ilion is in the final stages of securing a government grant.

Congressman Michael Arcuri says the plant will receive $21 million over the next five years as part of a contract with the military to work on sniper rifles.

Remington Arms is Herkimer County's number one employer, and had hoped that New York State legislation passed in April would clear the way for the weapons manufacturer to produce and repair firearm silencers for law enforcement and military families. The bill passed unanimously in the Senate and Assembly.

Laws before the arms bill legislation limited competition for federal small arms critical parts contracts to just three companies. The Arms Bill legislation that was passed allows all gun manufacturers to compete for defense contracts.

Remington says more government business means more jobs, and Congressman Arcuri says the contract will be finalized next week.
