Area children learn field hockey skills at camp

By WKTV News

(WKTV) - Basketball camps are pretty popular in the Mohawk Valley and most schools have programs.

But on Monday, area children got an introduction to something a little different -- field hockey.

It's part of Utica College's first Olympic Youth Camp, where 7- to 13-year-olds are learning the basic skills of the sport for six hours daily. The children learn how to hold the stick, take shots and the proper way to pass the ball.

Coach Emily Wold says the goal of the camp is to introduce the sport to area children. While she would've hoped for a little better turnout, the camp directors are happy to have kids at the session.

Camp ends Wednesday.
