Area's strategic plan the big topic at Chamber of Commerce meeting

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - The Mohawk Valley Chamber of Commerce held its annual membership meeting on Wednesday at the Hotel Utica and the topic of discussion was the strategic plan that is expected to win the Mohawk Valley some money.

Chamber members in attendance on Wednesday learned details from the Mohawk Valley Regional Economic Council and what local leaders are doing to secure the Mohawk Valley its share of a billion dollars in state grants ready for distribution throughout New York.

"Well, we're competing with other regions for some grant money from the state for economic development, so certainly it's very crucial when you look at all the things that we're doing here in the Mohawk Valley with regard to nanotechnology, education, the colleges, universities, etc," said Sam Berardino of the Chamber of Commerce.

A non-biased committee will begin awarding the grants in December.
