As temps reach into 90s, keeping cool at the local pool
UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - One way that people tried to beat the heat on Monday as temperatures reached into the early 90s was staying cool at the local pool.
Utica's Assistant Director of Recreation Chet Loconti says that even when you are at the pool it is important to take a break from the sun, and drink water in order to stay hydrated.
Three of Utica's parks also have sprinkler systems for infants, though you have to be 3'2" tall to be allowed in any of Utica's city pools.
"Today we are probably 50 or 60 people busier than a regular day," Loconti said. "Everyone doesn't want to sit inside in a hot room, they want to come to the pool."
The Utica City pools are open seven days a week with open swim hours for the public from 1-5 p.m.
The American Red Cross chapters in Utica and Herkimer said they did not have any requests for cooling stations Monday, but were ready should the need arise.
