Authorities: Elderly man runs red light, causes car accident

VERONA, N.Y. (WKTV) - One ticket was issued following a two-car crash that sent one man to the hospital, according to the Oneida County Sheriff's Office.

Officials say the accident happened at the intersection of State Route 365 and State Route 31 in the Town of Verona around 3:30 p.m. Saturday.

82-year-old Rudolph Wegter, of Rome, was driving west on Route 365 when drove through a red light at the intersection of Route 31, hitting the car driven by 94-year-old Thomas Jones, of Verona.

Jones was not injured as a result of the collision, but Wegter was sent to Rome Memorial Hospital with head/neck pain.

Wegter was ticketed for running the red light.
