Accident in Mohawk kills 77-year-old woman

(WKTV) - Authorities were at the scene of a fatal accident at Route 5S and Warren Road in Mohawk on Thursday morning.

According to New York State Police, Florence M. Harter, 77, of Orchard Street in Mohawk was killed when her car was struck by a tractor-trailer.

The accident happened around 8:50 a.m. at the intersection of State Route 5S and Warren Street in the Village of Mohawk. According to authorities, Harter was turning left into the westbound lane of Route 5S when her car was struck by a tractor-trailer traveling eastbound through the intersection. The tractor-trailer was driven by Robert Landcastle, 41, of Fillmore. He was en route from the Buffalo area to Dolgeville.

Harter was pronounced dead at the scene by Herkimer County Coroner Harry Enea.

The accident is still under investigation.
