Possible explosive device slows search of Sylvan Beach home

By WKTV News

(WKTV) - Authorities were on the scene of a possible methamphetamine lab bust in Sylvan Beach on Wednesday, but were stopped in their search after a possible explosive device was discovered.

The neighborhood around Vienna Road and 15th Street was evacuated and roads in the area were blocked off.

The Oneida County Sheriff's Office served a search warrant at 6 a.m. Wednesday. Around 8 a.m., a device that appeared to be an explosive device was discovered. The search stopped at that time and units were pulled away from the scene.

It was later determined the object was not a bomb and the search resumed.

New York State Police HAZMAT and crime team specialists were also at the home. Neighbors in the area said they had been concerned because of a recent flurry of activity at the home.

Two people are being held for questioning, according to New York State Police, but no arrests have been made yet.
