Police investigate robbery at First Source in Herkimer

HERKIMER, N.Y. (WKTV) - Multiple law enforcement agencies, Police in Herkimer County are searching for two men that are suspected in a morning robbery of the First Source Federal Credit Union in the Village of Herkimer around 11:20 a.m. on Monday morning.

"Approximately at 11:20 this morning, we had an alarm of a bank robbery at First Source Federal Credit Union," said Herkimer Police Chief Joseph Malone. "Responding officers secured the building. Currently, we are looking for two suspects. One is a black male, approximately 6 feet tall, with two earrings in each ear, wearing a red hat, thin build. The other subject is a shorter, lighter-skinned male, and that is the only description we have at this time."

Chief Malone said that the two men presented a note to one of the tellers at the credit union, did not display any weapons, and then fled the bank headed northwest on foot.

"We don't believe, at this point, that there was a vehicle involved," the Chief said.

It is unclear how much money the suspects made off with, but police said no one was injured during the incident. The credit union remained closed following the robbery, but authorities throughout Herkimer County were assisting Herkimer Police in the search for the two men.

"Currently we're being assisted by State Police, State Parole, Mohawk Police, Ilion, Town of Frankfort, Sheriff's Department, Little Falls Police," Chief Malone said.

The customers who were in the bank at the time had been taken to the Herkimer Police station, were officers were securing statements from them. Chief Malone said after that, they would secure statements from the employees of the Credit Union as well.
